One of the must-see attractions of Rochester is the Mayowood mansion, former home to Dr. Charlie Mayo. Now operated by the History Center of Olmsted County, the recently renovated mansion is once again open to visitors on a limited basis.
The entire Mayowood estate was constructed over a period of years from 1911 into the late 1930s. We attended the recently-revived Chrysanthemum festival in September, 2015, at which these photos were taken.
Tip for visitors: The Mayowood Christmas tours run through December 11, 2016, and reservations are required. You’ll buy your tickets (in person or over the phone) at the History Center of Olmsted County, and ride a trolley to the Mansion from there. Photography inside the mansion is largely prohibited, so be aware of that.
