Test #8

I’ve agreed to partner with Rochester’s Fiddlehead Coffee Shop to use their roasted beans for my project. I bought a couple of varieties of their roasted beans, and did a side-by-side test of them. Because I’m introducing a new variable, I don’t know which of my past experiments will necessarily give good results in this new case. So, I’m going back to the process where I develop for about 15 minutes with agitation.

I’m using a roll of film I shot with the same two images on it, so we’ll see how the two coffee beans respond to the film.

Test Summary:

Coffee: Fiddlehead “Ethiopian”, and “Kindling”, 4 tbsp grounds in 12 cups of water

Test #9

I extended my previous test using two varieties of Fiddlehead coffee beans, to include stand development with times of 30 minutes and 45 minutes. As before, the film contained the same image repeatedly shot at one exposure, then cut into segments with each segment in its own developing tank. Bromide drift was evident, but not severe.

Test #10

Thus far in my testing I’ve been shooting 35mm film, shot with my trusty 1979-vintage Olympus OM1-n SLR. In this new test, I switched to my medium format Yashica Mat 124G, shooting a roll of Fuji Neopan 100. It’s January now, so it’s cold out, and I’m not that interested in running around outside with my camera. So in addition to trying out a different camera, I’m testing my ability to compose and light an indoor shot. I may want to include a studio shot among my final project images.

As is evident here, these images are dark, so again, I’m fighting either underexposure, or underdevelopment, or both. If I’m going to do “studio” shots at home, I’m going to have to pay better attention to my lighting.
